½ cup + 1 tbsp butter or margarine
⅔ cup sugar
½ tbsp syrup
1 ¼ tsp cardamom
1 ¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 small egg
1 ¾ cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
Beat together butter, syrup, sugar, spices and egg. Add flour and baking soda, mixing well. Knead dough on floured counter top until smooth. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Using a ¼ of the dough at a time, roll into long logs. Cut log into 1 – 2 cm (1/4 inch) pieces. Spray cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray or use parchment paper. Place cut pieces of dough on prepared cookie sheet. Press lightly on top with spoon or finger but do not flatten. Bake 8 – 12 minutes on bottom rack at 350⁰.
