The story of Pastor Samuel King-Kabu

The Lord works in mysterious ways. Who would predict that a Presbyterian boy from Somanya, Ghana would become the well-loved minister of the Danish congregation at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, Montreal?

A Mother's Prayers
Samuel King-Kabu was brought up in an atmosphere of faith, laughter and safety.

His parents were staunch third-generation Presbyterians who knew that a strong faith and a good education were the keys to a better life. His mother's prayers and strong sense of humour helped the family through many difficult situations.

Samuel strongly believes that his prayers sowed the seed of ministry in his soul.

Called by a Higher Power
After high school, Samuel worked at a municipal water treatment station and was soon promoted to management. Four years later, he went to Germany to study agriculture.

There, he felt God calling him to full-time ministry and became a Lutheran. After graduating, he joined Youth With a Mission and headed to Vejen, Denmark.

Samuel's missionary work in Europe took him to the Scandinavian countries, Western Europe, and behind the Iron Curtain. He ministered in homes, seniors' institutions, prisons, churches and Bible camps.

I Love to Tell the Story
Samuel immigrated to Canada in 1979 to continue his studies. He studied at Briercrest Bible College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon. At an evangelical crusade he met Susan Priest. They married in 1984 and have three children.

Samuel was ordained in 1986. After serving rural parishes in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, he now ministers to urban parishes in Montreal. His African upbringing fostered his love of storytelling and he never misses an opportunity to tell the "simple" story of Jesus Christ.

Samuel feels blessed to be at St. Ansgar's, where he can return the gift of love he received during his stay in Denmark.
